Hi!

It's possible!  That is the first calendar we've ever done and we're not
sure if we'll be doing another one or not, so who knows??

Julie :)

Hi Todd!

Thanks for the nice note.  We are very much a family here.  Many of the
managers have been here for 20 years or more and many of the employees have
been here for that long as well.  Our reputation is important to us, so your
comments mean a lot.  Yes, Cliff Lett does the majority of the designing,
although he does have help.

The calendar is on its way!

Julie,
My address:

[DELETED]

I even NEED a calendar. How cool!
Also tell your dad that he has created one of the most respected RC
companies in the industry. From the people on the phone, to the style in
which you release products, to the quality of your products, to the team
drivers, and even the advertising material, AE does not have the arrogance I
see from companies such as Losi. You seem to be a people company, not a
product company, if that makes any sense. Hard to explain...
Anyway, I have always been a fan of the RC10 series. Whoever is designing
your kits (Cliff Lett?) is doing an smashing job! The TC3 is amazing. I just
look at it some times to admire the engineering :)
Too bad you are so far away, it would be cool to come see the facility...

Thanks in advance for the calendar!

Dear Todd,

I'm sure that he would want you to have it.  Actually, I think it will make
him very happy to know that someone like you, who will appreciate it, has
it.  After talking to you yesterday I found out that the shipping manager
had set that kit aside in case we ever wanted it for archives.  He later
found it and gave it to an employee.  My dad did give away quite a few
valuable items to the employees when he left, but that wasn't one of them.

I will let my dad know about your offer, but I am certain that he will want
you to have it--especially because you are a collector and will appreciate
it.  The only other old kit that we still have is the RC300BD.  That is a
gas car.

Can I have your address?  I'd like to send you a calendar.

Julie

WOW!
Super huge thanks for checking into this for me. This is great news.
I am not sure if you visited my website, but I am collecting vintage kits
and actually building them. I could NEVER bring myself to open this
particular kit now that I know it really was number one. I am still in need
of a RC10 Graphite in perfect shape (box, manual, all parts, etc). If Gene
would like this one, I would be willing to trade for another that does not
have such a significant history. I am also desperately looking for a RC10
Worlds Car in perfect shape (like mentioned above). They seem to be
exceedingly rare! Do you think he wants this kit? I am not trying to be an
oppurtunist here. I don't want to sell it. Maybe just trade or something.
Hehe, for all I know it is no big deal to him and I am being presumptious
:-)
In any case, I am grateful for your research and am not quite sure what to
do with this kit now that I have proof of it's uniqueness. I almost feel
guilty owning it :)

Thanks again, Julie.

Hi!

I guess there IS a story behind that kit!  My father, Gene Husting, was
co-owner of Associated.  When he retired, he gave away a lot of his
"treasures" to the employees.  One of the employees put this kit up for sale
on ebay at the original price on the box.  If you go to the Car Action site
one of our employees answered the question there.  That is the writing of
our shipping manager, Wayne Campbell.  We don't do that any more on the
kits.  Maybe we should!

Julie,
Thanks for talking with me on the phone and checking this out for me!
Here are two links to pictures of the box:

The person I bought this from claims this very box is the "first one off of
the assembly line".
My goal is to just confirm if this is true or not.

BTW, I have some pretty cool pics of very old RC10 kits on my website, if
you are interested...

Thanks again,
