This shot was taken looking North at Spirit Lake from Loowit Trail. You can just barely see the top of Mt. Rainier in the background. All of the land up to Spirit Lake slid out of the mountain on May 18, 1980. The lake bottom was raised 300 feet and the surface elevation increased by 200 feet due to this debris avalanche.
